Mecklenburg County Family Court Enacts New Local Rules

On December 1, 2011, the Local Rules of Domestic Court were updated by the Domestic Court Bar Committee. Changes were made to affidavit filing deadlines, parent coordinator terms, and many other family-court specific rules.

The Rules had not been updated since 2008, and the changes were made in an effort to provide uniformity and clarity to the complex family court system. Kate Miller has been a member of the Domestic Court Bar Committee since 2007, and believes the newly updated Rules will benefit litigants navigating the family court system.

“Having clarity on rules is always beneficial to litigants, as the uncertainty in family law cases is already daunting enough for clients to face. I applaud the work of the Domestic Court Bar Committee, specifically the rules subcommittee, for the tireless work that went into these new Rules. Whatever we can do to make this process easier for our clients is desirable,” says Kate.
